Harry Liversedge
Harry Liversedge ( Harry Bluett "The Horse" Liversedge ; born September 21, 1894 in Volcano , California , † November 25, 1951 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American track and field athlete and brigadier general .
In 1916, as a student at the University of California at Berkeley, he became an IC4A champion in the shot put . In May 1917, he joined the United States Marine Corps . At the Inter-Allied Games in 1919 he was second in both the shot put and javelin throw , and in 1920 he won bronze in the shot put at the Olympic Games in Antwerp .
For his missions in the Battle of New Georgia and the Battle of Iwojima , he was awarded the Navy Cross .
