Harry P. O'Neill

Harry Patrick O'Neill (born February 10, 1889 in Dunmore , Lackawanna County , Pennsylvania , †  June 24, 1953 in Scranton , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1953 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harry O'Neill dropped out of elementary school at the age of ten and worked in slate mining. In the evenings he trained as a hairdresser. At the age of 18 he was able to acquire his trainer's salon and run it himself. At the same time he was also active in the insurance industry. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1929 and 1948 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 1948 congressional elections , O'Neill was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican James P. Scoblick on January 3, 1949 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1953 . These were shaped by the events of the Korean War . In 1952 he was not re-elected.

Harry O'Neill died just six months after the end of his last term on June 24, 1953 in Scranton, where he was also buried.
