Harry Wu
Harry Wu (Chin. Wú Hóngdá, 吳弘達; born February 8, 1937 in Shanghai , Republic of China , † April 26, 2016 in Honduras ) was an American citizen and Chinese dissident who mainly described the Chinese labor camps ( Laogai ) .
In 1960, geology student Wu was arrested as a "counter-revolutionary deviator" and held in labor camps for 19 years without charge . In 1985 he was able to travel to the USA and became a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley . As the executive director of the Laogai Research Foundation in Washington, DC , he provided information about labor camps and the products made there.
