The Hartensteiner Wald nature reserve is located in the Zwickau district in Saxony . It extends south of the core town of Hartenstein . The Zwickauer Mulde flows to the west , the S 283 runs to the north and the S 255 to the east.

The 89 ha area with the NSG no. C 04 was placed under nature protection in 1993.
