Hartmut Kasten (* 1945 ) is a German developmental psychologist , early childhood educator and family researcher . Among other things, he has dealt with the areas of siblings , only children and favorite children as well as with the development and advancement of children, including value orientations and moral behavior.

Career

Box studied psychology , philosophy , philosophy of science , education and linguistics at the Universities of Cologne, Heidelberg, Regensburg and Munich. In 1969 he obtained a diploma in psychology from the University of Cologne . From 1969 to 1973 he worked on a grant at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry, Department of Psychology in Munich. He received his doctorate in psychology from the University of Regensburg in 1972. From 1973 onwards he worked as a lecturer at the University of Munich. In the first few years, his events mainly dealt with topics related to the development and promotion of empathy and prosocial behavior . At the State Institute for Early Childhood Education (IFP) he was entrusted with the implementation of model experiments in the elementary sector (for example on the subject of "developing and promoting moral behavior") from 1972 to 1984. In 1984 and 1985 he took over a professorship at the University of Koblenz-Landau (Ingenkamp) and became the managing director of the Center for Empirical Educational Research (ZEPF). In 1985 he completed his habilitation at the University of Munich in the department of psychology and pedagogy with the text "Contributions to a theory of interest development". There he held lectures as a private lecturer before he was appointed adjunct professor for psychology in 1989. After returning to the State Institute for Early Childhood Education, he moved to the State Institute for Family Research at the University of Bamberg in 1990 . He worked there until 1999 and then returned to the State Institute for Early Education in Munich. He worked there until he left the civil service in 2010.

From 1974 to 1979 he published several books for practitioners in the elementary sector at the State Institute. From 1980 onwards, at the Institute for Educational Psychology at the University of Munich, he developed fundamental empirical concepts for conducting studies on the development of interests , which he completed in 1985 with his habilitation thesis. From 1986 onwards he dealt more and more intensively with the subjects of "Siblings and their relationships", "Only children and their families" and then published the basic two-volume work "The Sibling Relationship" (Hogrefe) two years later, two years later, the popular non-fiction book "Geschwister - Role models, rivals, confidants ”(Reinhardt) and in the same year the non-fiction book“ Individual Children ”(Springer).

Kasten creates expert reports on relevant developmental and family psychological as well as early childhood education issues. Among other things, he regularly advises Coppenrath Verlag in Münster , holds lectures and organizes seminars. He is married and has a daughter.

Research priorities

Kastens research focuses on the development and promotion of interests and employment preferences across the lifespan as well as the connections between psychotherapeutic and epigenetic processes in trauma therapy. His publications also include popular scientific publications.

His areas of interest also include interdisciplinary consciousness research and development research, neurophysiology and neuropsychology of early childhood, as well as developmental psychological and early educational aspects of digitization and automation through artificial intelligence .
