Athletic career

In 1962 Hartmut Krüger began playing organized football at Motor Wolgast . In 1969 he moved to FC Hansa Rostock and was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team as a goalkeeper in the summer of 1972 . Until 1973 he was used in four junior international matches, u. a. in the final of the 1976 UEFA youth tournament, (GDR - England 2-3 a.d.). In 1974 he played two international appearances in the GDR youth national team .

In the 1973/74 season, FC Hansa Krüger played nine point games for the second team that played in the second-rate GDR league . On the last day of the season he also made his only league appearance when he was substituted on for the current goalkeeper Bernd Jakubowski in the game FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt - FC Hansa (0-0) . Previously, Krüger had been used in two games of the GDR youth national team. In the following season 1974/75 he was the second goalkeeper with 16 appearances in 22 point games. Since the first team of FC Hansa had to be relegated from the league this season and there was no opportunity for Krüger to play in the first team alongside the two doorkeepers Jakubowski and Dieter Schneider , Krüger played the 1975/76 season with Hansa II in the third class District League . For the 1976/77 season, the second team was transferred to the newly founded junior league and Krüger played his last season there for FC Hansa.

For the 1977/78 season, Krüger moved to the GDR league team Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock . There he was in goal from the start of the season, but was called up for military service in the National People's Army after eight point matches. There he was assigned to the Army Sports Association Vorwärts Neubrandenburg as the third goalkeeper. In their 1st team, which was also represented in the GDR league, Krüger was never used in the point games. After his discharge from the army, Krüger joined the GDR league club TSG Bau Rostock . There he became a regular goalkeeper from the 1979/80 season, until 1983 he played 68 matches in 88 league games. After he had not played in the GDR league at all in 1983/84 and had only played two league games in 1984/85, he then ended his career in higher-class football.
