Jakubowski 1971

Bernd Jakubowski (born December 10, 1952 in Rostock ; † July 25, 2007 in Dresden ) was a soccer goalkeeper in the GDR league , where he guarded the goal for Hansa Rostock and Dynamo Dresden . He was used in the B national team, the GDR Olympic team and in the junior national teams.

Soccer career

Bernd Jakubowski began his football career in 1961 as a student at SC Empor Rostock, which resulted in FC Hansa Rostock in December 1965 . Already as a junior player he came to selection apprenticeships and played 20 international matches with the junior national team of the GDR in 1970 and 1971. On May 25, 1970, he was in the junior selection, which won the UEFA youth tournament, unofficial European youth championship, after a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands and drawing lots for the GDR .

After the 1.88 m tall "Jaku" Jakubowski was allowed to play for the men's division, he was initially used in the second team of FC Hansa, which played in the second-rate GDR league . There he played his first game on November 8, 1970. In the 1971/72 season Jakubowski made his debut in the Hanseatic league team. On September 11, 1971, he was substituted in for the injured goalkeeper Dieter Schneider in the match on the 5th match day between Stahl Riesa and FC Hansa (1: 3) .

In the course of this season he was used in three other league games, but was also the goalkeeper of the 2nd team with 16 of 22 point appearances. 1972/73 he could not hold his ground in either the 1st or 2nd team, but was able to establish himself in the GDR youth national team, in which he played 15 international matches between 1972 and 1975. Jakubowski had his most successful season at Hansa Rostock in the 1973/74 season, when he again played 16 league games as a substitute for the injured Schneider. After Schneider's recovery he went back to the second line, but was used eleven times in the league games of the 1974/75 season. It was his last league season in Rostock, because in 1975/76 Hansa had to play after relegation in the GDR league, in which Jakubowski represented Schneider eight times.

After rising again in the summer of 1976, Hansa Rostock, who had two other talented goalkeepers in addition to Schneider with Aul and Desens, gave Jakubowski to the GDR soccer champions Dynamo Dresden during the 1976/77 season. After moving to Dresden on December 1, 1976, he played five league games for the black and yellow as the second man behind Claus Boden for the rest of the season . At the end of the season Jakubowski celebrated his first championship title with Dresden. This season Jakubowski also played in four international B matches. 1977/78 Jakubowski won his second championship after 18 league appearances. 1979/80 he had finally replaced Boden with a complete series of league games with 26 appearances as a regular goalkeeper. He was able to hold this position until 1986 and added three GDR Cup victories to his two championships in 1982, 1984 and 1985. At the cup final on May 1, 1982 against BFC Dynamo , there was a 1-1 draw even after extra time, he parried Christian Backs' shot on penalties and thus decided the final of the FDGB Cup for Dresden. In 1980 he was part of the squad of the GDR Olympic football team for the Olympic football tournament in the Soviet Union. There he won the silver medal, but was only used in the preliminary round match against Syria (5-0). Number one at coach Rudolf Krause was Bodo Rudwaleit from Berlin .

The European Cup game on March 19, 1986 Bayer 05 Uerdingen - Dynamo Dresden put Jakubowski's football career to an unexpected end. After an unfortunate collision with Wolfgang Funkel , Jakubowski broke his shoulder, which meant he could no longer work as a goalkeeper. For Dynamo Dresden Jakubowski's injury also meant leaving the competition, as substitute goalkeeper Jens Ramme had to accept six goals in the second half (final score 3: 7 after a 2-0 first leg win). During his 16-year league time Jakubowski had played 219 first division games, 36 for Hansa Rostock and 183 for Dynamo Dresden.

After the playing career

From 1974 to 1982 he had acquired his diploma as a sports teacher through distance learning at the DHfK in Leipzig. From 1980 he worked in a gym . From 1987 to 1989 he worked at Dynamo as a youth and goalkeeper coach. As Vice President he was part of the team of officials from April 1991 to April 1992. From 1995 to 1999 he ran a fitness studio as a self-employed entrepreneur, before he was a sports director at Dynamo from 1999 to 2001.

Most recently he supervised the soccer players of the Radeberger SV in the Dresden district class as a trainer . At the age of 54 he succumbed to cancer.
