Hartmut Piontek (born July 8, 1953 ) is a former German football player who played for Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football, in the 1970s .

Athletic career

Before Hartmut Piontek moved to the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Chemie Leipzig in 1975 , he had played for the BSG Lokomotive Delitzsch in the third-class Leipzig district league since 1971 . In the league promoted chemistry Leipzig, the retired regular defender Ulrich Rothe was to be replaced in the 1975/76 season . The 22-year-old Piontek was supposed to take over his position, but was only used in four league games at the beginning of the season and in three of the five games of the DFV-Toto special round in June 1976. Instead, he played with the 2nd team again in the district league. The first team was relegated to the GDR league again after a year , and Piontek was also included in their squad for this 1976/77 season. But he was not used in the GDR league and continued to play in the district league team.

After two seasons at Chemie Leipzig, Piontek moved to the district league team Stahl Nordwest Leipzig for the 1977/78 season . At the end of the season he was district champion with the steelworkers and rose with the team in the GDR league. Then there was a constant up and down between the GDR league and the district league until 1984. Piontek played four GDR league seasons with BSG Stahl with a total of 88 point games, in which he was used 71 times and in 1981 scored his only point goal in the higher league for Stahl NW. In 1978/79 and 1980/81 he was a regular player with 43 games, in 1981/82 he was absent in six games, including three because of a expulsion. As a 30-year-old, he played his last GDR league season in 1983/84. He was only used sporadically and was absent three times again due to a red card suspension. In all GDR league seasons he was a defender, mostly in central defense.

After Stahl Nordwest Leipzig was relegated again from the GDR league in 1984 and remained third class for a long time, Piontek's career in first and second class was over.
