Ulrich Rothe -1965 HFC

Ulrich Rothe (born July 19, 1945 in Kirchsteitz ) was a football player and athlete in Halle (Saale) and Leipzig . He played football for Halleschen FC Chemie and BSG Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association . He later worked as a football coach.

Soccer career

At the age of ten, Rothe began to play football at the sports club in Döschwitz . In 1960 he came to the children's and youth sports school Friedrich-Engels in Halle ad Saale. At that time there was no training for football in the former GDR. That is why Ulrich Rothe dedicated himself to athletics. Here he was very successful and in 1963 with the age group 17/18 GDR youth champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay and GDR runner-up in the decathlon. He achieved further success in 1965 as a GDR junior champion in the 18/19 age group in the 4 x 400 meter relay before his career in football began. Since 1965 he played in the regional football focus, the league club Hallescher FC Chemie (HFC). He made his debut in the league on March 19, 1966 in the encounter of the 19th match day of the 1965/66 season HFC - Hansa Rostock (2-0), in which he was used as a right midfielder. In this position he also completed the remaining seven point games. Already in his second league season 1966/67 he had won a regular place with 24 appearances in 26 played point games, he was still regularly used in midfield. Until 1970 Rothe was a fixture in the league team, in 1968 and 1969 he was mainly active as a defender. In the first half of the 1970/71 season he was only used on the 1st and 8th matchday, in November 1970 he was drafted into military service. In these one and a half years he played football for the Vorwärts Löbau army sports community and rose with the team in 1971 to the second-rate GDR league .

After compulsory military service ended in May 1972, Rothe joined the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig. There he was used in six promotion games to the league. The Leipzigers succeeded in promotion, and Rothe played his seventh league season in 1972/73, in which he again played 18 games as a midfielder. 1973/74 was his last season in the top GDR soccer class. He was used 17 times in midfield. At the end of the season, Chemie Leipzig had to relegate back to the GDR league, in which Rothe finally completed his last 24 point games as a competitive athlete. He helped Chemie Leipzig to return to the league immediately, but ended his playing career at the end of the season.

Then Rothe worked as a football coach, from 1978 to 1990 he coached the GDR league team Dynamo Eisleben .
