DFV Toto special round

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DFV-Toto special round was a competition of the German Football Association and the VEB Sporttoto , which took place in the 1973/74 and 1975/76 seasons . The Cup was in the tradition of the 1964 and 1972 Olympic Cup and Fuwo Cup .

Toto special round

The DFV-Toto special round was used analogously to the Olympic Cup (1964) and the Fuwo Cup (1972) in 1974 and 1976 to bridge the long summer break in the GDR league again . Due to the qualification of the GDR's national soccer team for the 1974 World Cup and the 1976 Summer Olympics , the national players were withdrawn from their clubs prematurely and did not take part in the competition. The special rounds of the DFV had the status of competitive games.

All fourteen GDR upper division clubs and, for the first time, the best-placed teams from the GDR league took part in the special round . 1973/74 the championship was determined in seven seasons, each with four teams through a return leg. In the 1975/76 season, six teams took part in a total of four seasons, but only played in a simple round.

The DFV issued several, otherwise unusual rules for the special round. At least three goals scored an additional point, while a dismissal resulted in the loss of two points. The result was in some cases drastically distorted final tables. At least in 1976 there was a penalty shoot-out after every game. For the 1973/74 season, FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt was the overall winner of the competition, as the Erfurt team had the best points ratio of all the season winners. The 1975/76 season was the most successful for 1. FC Magdeburg , but was no longer officially named the winner of the special round.

In the individual seasons, the football clubs were clearly superior again to the second-rate company sports clubs despite the lack of various national players.
