Hartwig Balzer

Hartwig Balzer (born June 25, 1945 in Halle ) is a German lawyer.

Life

After graduating from the Friedrichsgymnasium in Kassel in 1965 , Balzer studied law at the University of Tübingen from 1967 to 1971 . The second state examination in 1973 was followed by a position as a probationary judge at the Duisburg Social Court . This professional career phase was interrupted by secondments to the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Labor, Health and Social Affairs as well as to the Dortmund Social Court and the Essen Regional Social Court. In October 1977 Balzer was appointed judge at the social court. This was followed in April 1983 by being appointed judge at the State Social Court of North Rhine-Westphalia . There he worked as presiding judge since April 1989 . Since his election as judge at the Federal Social Court in November 1989, he has dealt with questions of statutory pension insurance in the Fifth Senate of the BSG. In 1994 he moved to the Twelfth Senate. There he took over the deputy chairmanship on January 1, 1999. On May 2, 2002 he was appointed presiding judge. He filled this position first in the Eleventh Senate, then from November 2004 in the Twelfth Senate. On July 1, 2010, he retired.

In addition, Balzer acted as the chairman of the library commission from September 1995 to June 2005. His membership in the Presidential Council, which extended from July 1998 to June 2002, was joined by that of the Presidium of the BSG from January 2001 to December 2004.
