Haruzo Hida

Haruzo Hida (born August 6, 1952 in Sakai , Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese mathematician who deals with number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry and modular shapes .

Hida received her PhD in 1980 from Kyōto University ( On Abelian Varieties with Complex Multiplication as Factors of the Jacobians of Shimura Curves ). As a post-doc he was at the Institute for Advanced Study and at the University of Hokkaidō . He is a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles .

In 1992 he received the Spring Prize of the Japanese Mathematical Society for his work on p-adic L-functions of algebraic groups and p-adic Hecke rings , and in 2019 he was awarded the Leroy P. Steele Prize for Seminal Contribution to Research for his work Galois representations into attached to ordinary cusp forms ${\displaystyle GL_{2}(\mathbb {Z} _{p}[[X]])}$ from 1986. He is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society .

Chandrashekhar Khare is one of his PhD students .
