Hasan İzzet Pasha (also Arolat , * 1871 in İstanbul ; † March 3, 1931 ) was an Ottoman general during the First World War , commander of the Third Army and teacher of Enver Pasha .

Life

İzzet was born in the Aksaray district of Istanbul in 1871 . He graduated from the Military School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) in 1890 and the Military Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) in 1893 .

On April 14, 1894, he was ordered to the 4th division by Sultan Abdülhamid II . On May 12, 1895 he did his service during a staff trip to Skopje ( Üsküp ). Since October 29, 1896 he worked in the military school ( Harp Okulu ).

After being promoted to major in 1897, he served in the Elasson Army ( Alasonya Ordusu ). Hasan İzzet was commander of the 2nd Neşet Bey Division ( 2nd Neşet Bey tümeni ) during the Turkish-Greek War and fought on the Domokos Front and Çatalca Front .

On July 17, 1897 Hasan İzzet was ordered to İstanbul and appointed commander of the border troops to Greece. From November 30, 1897 İzzet was a school inspector in Edirne . From March 21, 1898 he was a teacher of tactics ( tabiye ) at the military school ( Harp Okulu ). From March 26, 1906 he worked in the 4th Department of the Ministry of War (Erkânı Harbiye). In 1907, İzzet and a friend took part in the military maneuver in Romania. He was briefly (June 25, 1908) also active in the military court ( Askeri Mahkeme ).

In April 1909 he became the commander of the 17th Cavalry Division. In 1911 he was appointed commander of the 1st Division of the 1st Corps. During the Balkan War in 1912 he was in command of the 9th Division. On December 19, 1912, he was appointed Brigadier General and began his service as commander of the 18th Debre Division. On December 24, 1913 Hasan İzzet Pasha was appointed the commanding general of the newly established III. Corps appointed.

After the mobilization in 1914, Sultan Mehmed V made him commander of the Third Army . Hasan İzzet Pascha feared in the background of the ill-considered and quick changes in the army command during the preparations for the battle of Sarıkamış that Enver Pasha could rush to attack. Therefore, on December 18, 1914, he gave up his post as commander of the Third Army.
