The Hasensprung is a path in the Berlin district of Grunewald in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district . It has been a shortcut between Koenigsallee and Winkler Straße since 1898 .

history

After the Grunewald was parceled out around 1898, stately villas with large plots were built in this area. The shore properties around the lake have been privatized and secured against unauthorized entry with high fences. A single lane crossing including a bridge over the Dianasee and the Koenigssee was built for pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles.

In the 1920s, the sculptor Eberhard Encke was commissioned to create two copies of a rabbit for the bridge railing. Since then one has been running towards the hiker, one running away from the viewer.

In the 20th century, the Hasensprung was closed to horse-drawn vehicles and motor vehicles by means of two barriers. Today it is a popular meeting place for lovers.

useful information

When it was named in 1898, the name was derived from a vineyard near Winkel (since 1972 part of Oestrich-Winkel ) in the state of Hesse . In the wider area, even more streets were named after wine towns in 1898; What is meant is Winkler Strasse, from which the path starts, and then Erbacher, Erdener, Niersteiner and Trabener Strasse.

There is another street in Berlin called Hasensprung in the Lichtenberg district, Karlshorst district . Here the name should come from an old hallway name. (Quote: "A location that indicates the presence of rabbits")
