Hashimoto Masujirō

Hashimoto Masujirō ( Japanese 橋本 増 治郎 ; * April 28, 1875 in Hashira (today: Okazaki ), Aichi Prefecture ; † January 18, 1944 ) was a Japanese mechanical engineer and founder of the Kaishinsha, which was a forerunner of today's automobile manufacturer Nissan .

Life

Hashimoto moved to Tokyo at the age of 17 and began studying at the Tokyo University of Technology . He then traveled to the United States as part of a government program to learn the craft of engine building. In New York he worked for a steam engine manufacturer for three years and then returned to Japan. Hashimoto worked there in several positions and was employed in the fields of electrical engineering , weapons manufacture and the development of equipment for coal mining . Finally, he turned to vehicle construction and in June 1911 founded his own company, Kaishinsha Jidōsha Kōjō ( 快 進 社 自 働 車 工場 , Kaishinsha for short, English Kaishinsha Motorcar Works ), which later became Nissan Jidōsha KK ( Nissan Motor Co ., Ltd. ) was created.

His first automobile was built in his company and was completed in 1914. Hashimoto developed other vehicles and his company merged in 1926 with the vehicle manufacturer Jitsuyō Jidōsha Seizō ( 実 用 自動 車 製造 , English Jitsuyo Motors ) from Osaka. In 1931 the company now called DAT Jidōsha Seizō KK by the merger was a subsidiary of Aikawa Yoshisukes Tobata Imono KK ("Tobata Gussware", English Tobata Casting ). Hashimoto lost his job and left the company. Little is known about his life after leaving the company and Hashimoto died in January 1944.
