Hatmehit (Hat-mehit) Ḥ3.t-mḥ.jt First of the fish |
Hatmehit , also Hat-mehit , is an ancient Egyptian goddess who has been documented as a fish deity since the 4th dynasty and is a goddess of the 16th Lower Egyptian Fischgau . She is depicted as a woman with a catfish-like fish on her head, which she then wears over a Uraeus diadem . On amulets it appears as a fish.
Hatmehit was venerated in Mendes , but there are also representations in the Amun temple of Hibis . The goddess was considered the wife of the Aries of Mendes in the late period . Since the third interim period , both have formed the so-called trinity of Mendes with Harpocrates .
