Lexware is a German manufacturer of standard application software from Freiburg im Breisgau . It has been a division of the Haufe Group since 1993 and operates as Haufe-Lexware GmbH & Co. KG . His focus is on commercial software for the self-employed , freelancers and small and medium-sized companies.

history

In 1989 the company was founded by Axel Wessendorf under the name Abakus Society for Software Development for Legal and Tax Advisory Professions . Wessendorf sold his shares in 1997 to Rudolf Haufe Verlag (today part of the Haufe Group ) and founded United Planet in 1998, also in Freiburg .

Lexware initially offered a range of complementary software modules . These include financial accounting , payroll accounting , asset accounting and merchandise management ( billing , warehouse accounting , purchasing ). Lexware also offers software for income tax returns with the TAXMAN program . Lexware has been a brand of the Haufe Group since 1993.

In 1999 Lexware entered into a strategic alliance with Intuit Germany and took over the marketing of the Quicken , QuickBooks and QuickSteuer products in Germany .

After the single-user versions of the programs, the "Lexware Professional" product line was added in 2001, which uses its own Sybase SQL Anywhere database server and is therefore multi-user capable . The interfaces for electronic communication with the tax office have been available via ELSTER since 2001 and also with the health insurance companies via dakota since 2004 .

In June 2008 Lexware entered into a joint venture with the Norwegian software company Mamut . The aim was to jointly market programs for small and medium-sized companies (e.g. CRM software). After the takeover of Mamut by Visma in 2011 and a regional realignment, the joint venture and the joint company Mamut-Lexware Vertriebs GmbH was dissolved in August 2012.

At the turn of the year 2009/2010 Lexware brought out a “Premium Line” based on the “Lexware Professional” product range.

Between 2011 and 2012 Lexware developed the online solution lexoffice , which was developed with 800 companies according to the crowdsourcing principle. In 2013 more than 20,000 companies were already involved. The design thinking method was also used to analyze the company's needs .

In 2014 the company launched its own card payment service, Lexware pay . The mobile payment solution enables companies to settle debit and credit cards via smartphone or tablet. Lexware pay was awarded the IT innovation prize of the Initiative Mittelstand.

At the end of 2015, Lexware introduced a function known as the “actuality guarantee”, which deactivates various functions in the individual programs after the “guarantee period” has expired (usually one year), so that customers are required to buy a new version every year. Otherwise, for example, data can no longer be transferred to ELSTER from accounting and finance programs, advance sales tax returns, income tax returns, etc. Ä. Are also no longer possible.
