Haughton Ackroyd (born June 24, 1894 in Todmorden , † February 12, 1979 in Southport ) was an English football player .

Career

Ackroyd was already in the 1920/21 season for Wigan Borough in the Lancashire Combination for use. For the following season the club was one of the founding members of the Football League Third Division North and Ackroyd was one of two goalkeepers in the squad alongside William Bromilow in the first season. In the press Ackroyd was described as a "Blackpool player" and made his season debut in September 1921 as part of the Lancashire Senior Cup in front of over 10,000 spectators against Stockport County ; on the press side, he was praised as an “excellent representative” for Bromilov in the 2-2 draw.

In the spring of 1922 he came to a series of five league missions. On its debut in the Football League against Darlington FC , the team managed a draw despite a 3-0 deficit. In a 3-1 defeat at AFC Ashington , he was praised for "several good defensive actions". In his last appearance, he let the 1-0 opening goal of double-goalscorer Cyril Matthews pass in a 2-1 defeat against AFC Barrow , which he should have kept according to the press. In the last weeks of the season, Bromilow was used again.

Although the Athletic News reported in May 1922 that both Bromilov and Ackroyd were signed up for the coming season, neither of them appeared for Wigan Borough. Ackroyd should in the season break the near Blackpool lying FC Lytham have connected.

In January 1924 he appeared again as part of the qualification for the national billiards championship.
