Main diagnostic group
Hauptdiagnosegruppe - Major Diagnostic Category (MDC) - describes the chapter division of the German DRG catalog. The main diagnostic groups divide the DRGs according to the organ system or the cause of the disease.
There are a total of 23 main diagnosis groups as well as special cases and error DRGs. In most cases, the assignment to an MDC is based on the ICD-10 coded diagnoses.
