The building was built in 1948/49. It was entered under No. H 110 on August 1, 2011 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

The commercial building at Hauptstrasse 30 represents a head building within the ridge development of the Hauptstrasse in Rheydt and at the same time forms the eastern boundary of the confluence of Harmoniestrasse and Hauptstrasse, opposite Hauptstrasse 26 (head building) on ​​the west side. Within the ridge structure of the south side of Hauptstrasse, the commercial building at Hauptstrasse 30 forms one of the four-storey head buildings that protrude into the street as far as the old alignment and are open on the ground floor with a passage and shop window.

The building rises on a rectangular, almost square base with a flat roof and thus shows a decidedly cubic structure. It is a concrete- coated steel frame construction built using the assembly method , the white painted grid of which is filled in with prefabricated concrete slabs.

Color-coordinated, these panels have a red base with a delicate white diamond- shaped line pattern . The panels are a little behind the skeleton grid so that the facade has a relief. There is also no uniform grid, but on the one hand the individual axes are of different widths, on the other hand the windowing of the individual fields is also varied. The ground floor is open to pedestrians according to the overall concept of the main street , here arranged as a colonnade on the outside according to the corner location . It is striking that each front axle is not durchfenstert above the ground floor passage on both side walls, but with diamonds that here ornamented surface acts particularly clear in the street space, originally broken only by the initials seal by "PW" the builders and Business owner.

The construction was carried out in the steel frame assembly method, which was more used in high-rise buildings and was still rare in Germany at the time (occasionally in use from the mid-1920s, pioneering in the Rhineland the Lochnerhaus / Haus Grenzwacht , Aachen 1925/26), i.e. H. the load-bearing scaffolding was initially assembled from prefabricated steel elements (Krupp-Stahl Rheinhausen) and only then encased with concrete on the construction site. The main advantage of this construction method was the fast construction time due to the assembly of prefabricated parts on the construction site and the variability of the floor plan that is typical for skeleton structures .

The windows have been renewed, the interior shop window area has been changed.

The commercial building at Hauptstrasse 30 is an integral part of the visually striking and historically significant ridge development on Hauptstrasse and also an exemplary prototype for the rebuilding of Rheydt's city center as a whole. Not least because of its unusual, finely proportioned design, it has a very clear focus function within the large urban development figure, as a head building both within the street row and as a corner building to Harmoniestraße.

The commercial building at Hauptstrasse 30 is important for Rheydt, City of Mönchengladbach. There is a public interest in its preservation and use for scientific, architectural, historical and urban planning reasons. It is therefore a monument according to § 2 DSchG NRW .
