Former post office, Hauptstrasse 310 (2014)

The building at Hauptstrasse 310 is a residential building in Königswinter , a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which was built in 1902 as a post office . It is a listed building as a monument .

history

The building was created as a so-called rental post office, which a private company built according to plans and specifications of the Reichspost and rented it to them on a long-term basis. On May 1, 1903, the post office in the new building opened. In 1914 it became state property. In the course of the separatist movement in the Rhineland in 1923, the post office was occupied by Moroccan soldiers under French command and the service was interrupted. At the beginning of August he could be resumed to a limited extent until armed separatists temporarily occupied the post office again on October 25, 1923.

At the beginning of 1970, a newly built telecommunications center was put into operation on the 2,900 m² site. On October 26, 2004 the post office was closed and replaced by an agency at a different location. A real estate company acquired the property , which had two multi-family houses and four “town houses” built on the property from summer 2010 to 2013, demolishing the former telecommunications office, and having five apartments set up in the building of the former post office.

The building was entered in the monuments list of the city of Königswinter on December 20, 2012.

architecture

The building of the former post office is a two-storey, elongated building with an extended roof. It originally contained the post rooms on the ground floor and apartments on the upper and top floors. The side axes of the building are slightly projected and gabled .
