The House of Carnival is a historic building in Düsseldorf's old town at Zollstraße 9, which has housed a museum on the theme of the Düsseldorf Carnival since January 15, 2005 . The house also serves as the office of the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee and offers exhibitions on customs on three floors , where uniforms, medals, books and certificates as well as photos from over 60 years of Düsseldorf Carnival are shown. In the building, not far from the market square at the town hall , there is also a media archive in cooperation with the West German Broadcasting Corporation with film recordings of the Rose Monday parades.

The museum is open to visitors every Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or by prior arrangement.

building

A development at this point was documented as early as 1632. The current three-storey plastered building probably dates from the 18th century. The entrance to the house is in the middle of the five-axis facade. The bezels of the facade openings are made of natural stone. The ground floor and the top floor are set off by a cornice . Above the last, d. H. On the second floor, a triangular gable with oculus and garlands rises above the three central axes and forms the end of the building. The wooden stairs from the baroque era are still in their original form. In 1862 the window parapets were lowered. The building was added to the list of monuments of the state capital Düsseldorf on March 15, 1985 as one of the last buildings in the old town. In 1998, the building was given to the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee on a long lease basis and renovated and rebuilt for around DM 1.5 million.

The Hoppeditz memorial , which Bert Gerresheim created on behalf of the Friends of Düsseldorf Carnival, has stood behind the house of the carnival at Rheinort since 2008 .
