Havana marking

Havana Marking (born in England ) is a British producer and director of documentaries.

Her best-known film is Afghan Star (2009), which received the Best Director and Audience Award 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival . In the film, she accompanies the participants in the production of the Afghan version of American Idol , a TV competition that hardly anyone would have thought possible after 30 years of Taliban rule, war and unrest. Her documentary Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers was released in 2013 . This film is about Pink Panther , a group of international jewel robbers who are said to have looted around 250 million dollars in over 150 robberies. The film gained particular topicality in July 2013 with the spectacular robbery on the Carlton Hotel in Cannes and the escape of a gang member from a Swiss prison.

Life

Marking was born in England and moved to the United States as a child . Her father, Giles Marking, is a designer in London and was an architecture professor at the University of Washington . Stacy Marking, her mother, is a journalist, author, and businesswoman. She was one of the first female television directors in the UK .

Marking is the director of the British independent film company Roast Beef Productions . The company's business plan was: "Get a studio, fill it with talented people and see what happens"… . Her journalistic work, articles and photo stories have been published in The Guardian , The Observer and The Daily Telegraph .
