Haworthia maraisii is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae).

description

Haworthia maraisii grows without a trunk and sprouts slowly. The few to many ovate-lanceolate, usually blunt leaves form a rosette with a diameter of 4 to 7 centimeters. The very dark green, opaque leaf blade is up to 4 centimeters long and 1 centimeter wide. The leaf surface is rough. There are small raised warts on it, which are sometimes thorny. The leaf edge and the leaf quill are covered with small thorns .

The slender inflorescence reaches a length of up to 30 centimeters. The flowers often have a yellow throat. The tips of the outer tepals are pinched.

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia maraisii is common in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

The first description by Karl von Poellnitz was published in 1935.

A nomenclatural synonym is Haworthia magnifica var. Maraisii (Poelln.) MBBayer (1977).

A distinction is made between the following varieties :

  • Haworthia maraisii var. Maraisii
  • Haworthia maraisii var. Meiringii M.B.Bayer
  • Haworthia maraisii var. Notabilis (Poelln.) MBBayer
