Haworthia semiviva is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet semiviva is derived from the Latin words semi for 'half' and vivus for 'living' and refers to the leaves that appear half dead during the dry season.

description

Haworthia semiviva grows stemless and only rarely sprouts. The 30 to 40 wide egg-shaped, inwardly curved leaves form a rosette with a diameter of 5 to 6 centimeters. The thin, pale green, translucent leaf blade is 6 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. Usually it dries back from its tip.

The inflorescence reaches a length of 20 to 30 centimeters and consists of 30 to 25 flowers . The white flowers are veined with green.

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia semiviva is common in the South African provinces of the Western Cape and Eastern Cape .

The first description as Haworthia bolusii var. Semiviva by Karl von Poellnitz was published in 1938. Martin Bruce Bayer raised the variety to the rank of a species in 1976.

Another nomenclature synonym is Haworthia arachnoidea var. Semiviva (Poelln.) Halda (1997).
