Hawthorn is a suburb of Melbourne , Victoria , Australia , 6 km east of Melbourne city center (CBD, Central Business District ) and belongs to the local administrative area ( LGA ) City of Boroondara . At the 2016 population survey, Hawthorn had a population of approximately 23,500 permanent residents.

history

The first settlement took place around 1830, around 1840 the area was still called Hawthorne , which comes from the predominant vegetation, the hawthorns . This name finding is attributed to Charles La Trobe .
