Hazarmawet is the third oldest son of Joktan and descendant of Noah in the Old Testament .

etymology

The Hebrew name חֲצַרְמָוֶת ḥǎṣarmāwæt is a genitive combination in Hebrew, consisting of a basic word and a determiner. The basic word is the noun חָצֵר ḥāṣer "camp / homestead", the defining word is the noun מָוֶת māwæt "death". The name therefore means "camp of death". Originally the name is derived from the root * ḌRM , from which the Arabic root ḍarima “burn / blaze” comes. As the country name, Hazarmawet is Ḥaḍramaut in Arabic , ḤḌRMWT or ḤḌRMT in Old South Arabic .

The Septuagint gives the name as Ασαρμωθ asarmōt , the Vulgate as Asarmoth , the Samaritan Pentateuch as ' Iṣrīmot .
