Usal

Usal is the sixth eldest son of Joktan and descendant of Noah in the Old Testament . In addition, Usal is a place name in Ez 27.19  EU .

Surname

The name is Hebrew אוּזָל 'ûzāl . In Ez 27.19  EU is מְאוּזָּל mə'ûzzāl "spun", but it is suggested to read מֵאוּזָל me'ûzāl "from Usal" instead . The Septuagint gives the personal name as αιζηλ aizēl , the place name as ασηλ asēl .

Biblical report

Usal is according to the table of peoples Gen 10.27  EU and according to 1 Chr 1.21  EU the sixth oldest son of Joktan. His brothers are called Almodad , Shelef , Hazarmawet , Jerach , Hadoram , Dikla, Obal, Abimaël, Sheba , Ofir , Hawila and Jobab. They settled from Mescha via Sefar to the Eastern Mountains. The section in Gen 10: 25-29  EU , in which Usal and his brothers are mentioned, does not belong to the priestly scriptures.
