Background information

A 30-second excerpt was published on October 21, 2007 on the Internet. The worldwide radio premiere took place two days later. A few hours before the official radio premiere, the song had already appeared on the Internet.

The song was mainly written by Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell with support from producers Matt Rowe and Richard Stannard. The other three band members had contributed further text afterwards. The news from some newspapers that Victoria Beckham had a much shorter solo part than the rest of the members was denied by a band spokesman with the statement that all band members had the same length of solo parts. In reality, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell got the same length of solo parts, while Melanie C and Victoria Beckham got slightly shorter solo parts. Only Melanie Brown has no solo part of her own, but sings the last line of the song alone. In addition to headlines , the single also includes a Wannabe remix by Soulseekerz, the Spice Girls' debut single.

On November 11th, the song entered the UK charts at number 20 only through downloads, with over 7,000 sales. In the second week, the song dropped to # 23 and sold 5,900. In the third week, the single hit number 11 with 10,277 sales when the physical single was released, becoming the Spice Girls' first single to miss the top 10 in the UK charts. On November 14th, the single went to Hot Digital Songs in the US at # 113 with 9,717 sales. In the same week, it also made it to number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 , due to the high video / song hits and some airplays, outside of digital downloads. In Germany, the single was ranked 46th. Overall, the single was a commercial failure, reaching the top 10 in just five countries (Italy (# 2), Philippines (# 5), Russia (# 8), Sweden (# 3) and Spain (# 2)). In the Philippines, it was the first Spice Girls single to miss the top of the chart.
