Career and work

Hedwig Christina Gertrud was mentioned for the first time on September 16, 1670 and was maiden in office from August 30, 1675 until her election as abbess. The election took place on September 16, 1688. She swore her oath of obedience on November 18, 1688, and the next day she signed her election surrender with the obligation to reside exclusively in Freckenhorst. The abbey had suffered great disadvantages in the past due to the constant absence of the abbesses. The bishop confirmed the election on December 5, 1688. So on October 11, 1689, the ceremonial entry could take place. In 1691 Hedwig Christina had the Petri Chapel restored. In addition, she donated valuable sacred objects to the monastery. She made her will on June 18, 1714, with codicils added on September 16, 1717 and April 24, 1721 . An epitaph in the collegiate church commemorates the abbess. The motif "The fear of death of Christ" is related to the foundation of the " fear of death brotherhood " founded in 1694 .
