Hedwig Prohl (born June 30, 1823 in Mewe , West Prussia , † February 12, 1886 in Breslau ) was a German writer .

Life

Hedwig Prohl was born as the third child of the postal secretary Taube in Mewe. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Marienburg . When Hedwig Prohl was five years old, after visiting her parents, she stayed with her childless uncle in his care. She attended the daughter's school in Bromberg and received private lessons in French and music. At the age of 15 she went on trips to Pomerania and Berlin with her parents , two years later she finally returned to her parents' house, which she had only visited during the previous years.

In 1845 she married the accountant Prohl, with whom she first lived in Krakow and later in Graudenz , Marienwerder and Breslau. She became the mother of four sons and a daughter, for whose education she began to work as a writer. The youth publication seed grains for young hearts , published in 1862, was her first work, which was followed by numerous other novels and stories for children and young people in the next few years.
