Heide Schütz

Heide Schütz (* 1941 ) is a German teacher and peace educator .

Life

As a war child, she learned to appreciate the school feeding of American Quakerism in bombed Berlin . She grew up in Trier . She then studied German, English and political science in Saarbrücken and Mainz. During her studies she was the faculty spokeswoman in the student parliament and met her husband. Heide Schütz worked as a teacher for decades, most recently at the Helmholtz Gymnasium in Bonn.

Over the years committed they are to the world peace and peace education. She was an NGO observer at the UN Women's Rights Commission, which hosted four world conferences on women . After the UN World Women's Conference in Beijing , she founded the Women's Network for Peace in Bonn in 1996 . V. (FNF) and organized vigils for peace at Bonn Minster . Furthermore, she campaigned for the memorial for Bertha von Suttner in Bonn and the German-Czech women's forum.

On December 1, 2016, Federal President Joachim Gauck awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for their commitment to peace . In November 2017, as FNF chairwoman, she received the Helga and Werner Sprenger Peace Prize , named after Werner Sprenger .
