The Heidesee in Holdorf is a quarry pond from which sand was extracted for the embankment of the A 1 directly adjacent to the lake . Today it serves as a leisure and recreation center together with nearby sports facilities.

The natural bathing lake on the northern slope of the Dammer Mountains is approx. 10 hectares in size and up to 15 meters deep. The lake is home to eels , large perch , pike , carp , many American crayfish and some algae . Otherwise there is hardly any vegetation.

Two wrecks and a platform for diving exercises were sunk in the lake for recreational divers.
