Heidi Senger-Weiss

Heidi Senger-Weiss (born May 20, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian logistics company. She is also known as the “grande dame of Austrian transport logistics”.

Life

Heidegunde "Heidi" Weiss was born on May 20, 1941 as the only daughter of Gertrude and Ferdinand Weiss in Vienna and grew up in Bregenz ( Vorarlberg ), where she first attended elementary school and then secondary school. In 1963, after completing her degree in business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , she completed a two-year internship in freight forwarding in Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States of America. She then joined the Gebrüder Weiss family business in 1965 . Only three years later, after the unexpected death of her father, the then 27-year-old took over the management of the forwarding company together with her husband Paul Senger-Weiss. Under her leadership, Gebrüder Weiss OHG was converted into a GmbH in 1972. In addition to modernizing the systems and expanding into Central and Eastern European countries and China, Senger-Weiss co-founded the parcel service APS Austria Paket System (today DPDA) in 1988. After 36 years as managing director and chairman of the board of Gebrüder Weiss, during which the company developed into the largest Austrian logistics service provider, Heidi Senger-Weiss moved to the supervisory board in 2005, where she was chairman until 2015. In 2015 she was the first woman to be inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame because, as the jury stated, "through numerous impulses in corporate management, internationalization and employee motivation , she has a positive influence on the competitiveness of transport logistics beyond Austria's borders has contributed significantly to the professionalization of the transport logistics industry ”. The more than 500-year history of the traditional logistics company is documented in WeissBuch 3 (2010), which was edited together with her husband and published by Christian Brandstätter Verlag .
