Heidkoppelmoor (Schneverdingen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heidkoppelmoor is a bog in the Wümmeniederung at Schneverdingen in Lower Saxony .

The Heidkoppelmoor is one of the smaller moor complexes near the Wümme . The area has largely intact vegetation on almost 60 hectares . Geomorphologically, this moor was able to develop because an Ice Age sand dune lies between the fertile "valley" of the Wümme and the surrounding land . Due to this peripheral location, humid areas and the small heather peat bog could form here between the heathland.

A small group of active moor protectors looked after the Heidekoppelmoor in 2011 and 2012. The group used landscape conservation measures to protect around 10 hectares of moorland in the northern part.

On the opposite (northern) side of the Wümme is the 21 hectare nature reserve " Heidemoor bei Ottermoor ".
