Heidulf Gerngross (* 1939 in Kötschach ) is an Austrian architect , artist and editor of a cultural magazine.

life and work

Heidulf Gerngross was born in Kötschach in Carinthia in 1939 . He completed architecture studies in Vienna and Graz as well as a degree in painting in Tokyo . He did his postgraduate studies (Urban Design) at UCLA Los Angeles , which he completed in 1971 with a Master of Science in Urban Land Economics. In 1976 he founded the Gerngross-Richter architectural office with Helmut Richter. Together with Robert Schwan he founded the Gerngross Atelier, Der Gerngrossraum, Gerngross ST / A / D. He invented the Archiquanten (architectural particles for the proportioning of architectural making) in 1995. A year later he caused a sensation with several projects in his Gerngross workshop in Vienna, including the 1st Vienna Loft and the Friedrich Kiesler School in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. In 2002 his contributions casa privata and aula discorsiva were shown at the 2002 Venice Architecture Biennale . The architectural model capella bianca was then purchased by the MAK .

Since 2003 Gerngross has been the publisher of the print medium ST / A / R , Urban Planning, Architecture, Religion. The film The Archistrator, Heidulf Gerngross from RAUM.FILM. Vienna was presented to the public in 2004 in the Topkino Wien.

In 2008 he received the City of Vienna Prize for Architecture .

Heidulf Gerngross lives and works in Vienna and Melk . With three women, Gerngross has a total of six children who were born between 1962 and 2006.

Gerngross column by Franz West

On August 28, 2007, a column by the artist Franz West was unveiled at the foot of the Rahlstiege in Vienna , with an egg perched on top. The Gerngross lettering is mirror-inverted on this. The lettering does not refer to the nearby Gerngross department store , but to the artist Heidulf Gerngross.
