The “Biennale for Light Art Austria 2010” was a non-commercial biennial of artistic light projects and the first biennale for light art to be held in Austria. Light artists as well as visual artists from other genres who are experimenting with light for the first time could apply to participate. The motto of the 2010 Biennale was “private light in public spaces”. This biennial took place in Austria in autumn 2010, starting on September 1st. The organizer was Galerie Artpark Linz, advised by Peet Thomsen (USA / Copenhagen / Linz). The artistic selection was made by a jury, the curator was Laura Plana Gracia from Spain.

The Biennale für Lichtkunst Austria 2010 was supported by the cultural departments of the Province of Upper Austria , the Province of Lower Austria , the City of Linz and private sponsors.

The kick-off event for the Light Art Biennale took place on September 1st in Linz. and on September 4, 2010 in Perchtoldsdorf . The Light Art Biennale Austria 2010 ran from the first weekend in September to mid-December 2010, a selection was on view in Innsbruck in November 2010 in the Claudiana Gallery, and the closing event was in Vienna. The venue for the final event was the Area 53 gallery in Vienna-Mariahilf. The Biennale was documented via a blog, a website and a catalog. This was prepared in the form of a folder containing all the information about the individual artists in printed form. This documentation was handed over to the cultural office of Lower Austria in 2011.

More than 50 artists from 4 continents and 21 countries took part. Participants were both established artists on the art market and young talents.

History: The concept for this biennale was developed by the artists Martina Schettina and Manfred Kielnhofer. Inspired by the light art biennale in neighboring Germany as part of "RUHR.2010", the idea arose to present light art to a wider audience in Austria as well.
