Clinic Church (green dome) in the Freiburg University Medical Center

The Heilig Geist Clinic Church is a Roman Catholic church building on the grounds of the Freiburg im Breisgau University Hospital in the Stühlinger district . It is part of the Freiburg-Mitte pastoral care unit in the Freiburg deanery of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

At the end of the reconstruction of the clinic after the destruction of the Second World War , the church was built according to the plans of the architect Horst Linde between 1952 and 1954. It has the form of a transversely positioned ellipse and consists of an easily-operating with Ytong stones walled reinforced concrete - skeleton and a wooden flat dome , the diamond-shaped structure is visible inside. There is a direct connection to the medical and surgical clinic on two floors (ground floor and gallery ). This peculiarity makes it next to the Diakoniekirche Halle to a nationwide unique clinic church. The daylight in the church comes through a strip of light made of concrete tracery with partially colored glazing that runs around below the dome. These and the mosaic on the altar wall were made by the artist Harry MacLean (Heidelberg).

The organ with 21 registers on two manuals and pedal from 1954 was refurbished in 2010 by a technical reconstruction by the Waldkircher Orgelbau Jäger & Brommer company and played again for the first time on December 19th by the archbishop's organ inspector. In addition to cleaning the pipes, a new wind system and new register pulls were installed. In addition, the console was moved in front of the organ.
