Ada (saint)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ada (died presumably on December 4, after 692) was an abbess of the monastery of Saint-Julien des Prés in Le Mans .

The niece of St. Engelbert grew up in a pious household and first entered a convent in Soissons , where she was ultimately elected abbess. Later she became abbess of the abbey of St. Julian in Le Mans (on the site of today's Le Mans Cathedral ).

About the life of St. Ada is little known; Her great piety and that she was a consecrated virgin are recorded . In France she is considered the patroness of religious women. The feast day of St. Ada is December 4th . Her grave in the monastery church was desecrated by Huguenots .

St. Ada is not to be confused with the abbess Ada who wrote the Ada Gospels , which was made around the year 800; commissioned.
