Holy Three Doctors is the popular name for St. Marius and his companions , Marius , his wife Martha , and their sons Abachum (also Habakuk ) and Audifax, who are venerated as martyrs by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches . They were Persian doctors and died together 268 / 270 in Rome .

Vita

Marius and Martha came from the martyr legend from the 5th / 6th centuries. According to the 16th century, with her sons Abachum and Audifax from Persia to Rome around 268 to venerate the tombs of the apostles there. At the same time, the sons wanted to work as doctors in Rome.

The parents and sons cared for the poor and needy and went to prisons to seek consolation from the Christians who were about to be executed.

The persecutors of Christians became aware of them through their activities. They are said to have been captured under Claudius Gothicus and martyred on the 13th milestone of the Via Cornelia . Martha is said to have been thrown into a well.

Adoration

In Carolingian times, their relics were probably first transferred from Rome to Aachen , from there to the Prüm Abbey , where they are first mentioned in the treasury register from 1003. In addition to the relics still preserved in Prüm, there are others in Seligenstadt , Gembloux and Cremona .
