Heiligengeistgasse (Freistadt)
The Holy Spirit Alley is a 130-meter-long street in Freistadt in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel . The alley was laid out when the city was founded in the 13th century and is located within the city walls of the old town . The road begins near the Böhmertor and ends at the Scheibling Tower.
The name of the street comes from the former Holy Spirit Chapel in house no. 1, which was built in the 15th century. In the Middle Ages, part of the street was the border between two districts. There are 13 houses along today's Heiligengeistgasse, 11 of which are listed. In the two great city fires in 1507 and 1516, all the houses in the city were destroyed, including in Heiligengeistgasse. Due to the city fires, many old documents from the time the houses were built have been lost. Around 1880 the last devastating fire destroyed many houses in the street.

- Corner house Heiligengeistgasse 1 / Böhmergasse 9 (town house, formerly town no.100 )
A long building complex with the former Holy Spirit Chapel in the courtyard wing. The late Gothic main house and the courtyard wing date from the end of the 15th century, when Baroque changes were made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The second upper floor is a new building from the period after 1880. The main front includes a late Gothic segment arch portal and a broad bay window that was reinforced after 1880. Inside there are wide central corridors with late Gothic ribbed vaults on the ground floor and first floor. The former chapel was donated in 1435 and profaned in 1785 . It was a high, three-bay chapel with a late Gothic ribbed vault. At the end of the 15th century it was divided into two floors by a baroque lancet barrel vault. The building has been a listed building since 1940.
- Corner house Heiligengeistgasse 3 / Waaggasse 24 (town house, formerly town no.133 )
A historical, late Gothic town house, which was first mentioned in a document in 1397 and has been a listed building since 1993. The building was redesigned in the 16th and 18th centuries and around 1900. The facade has Gothic timber-frame windows from around 1500. Inside there are several vaults from the 16th century, several Gothic portals and a baroque plastered wooden ceiling.
- Heiligengeistgasse 4 (community center, formerly town No. 98 )
A three-story building that was first mentioned in 1515. Large parts date from the 16th and 17th centuries, the top floor from the second half of the 18th century. In the course of the increase in the 18th century, today's facade was designed. Inside there is a room with a barrel vault and a room with a plastered wooden ceiling. The building has been a listed building since 1993 and is currently (2009) in need of major renovation.
- Heiligengeistgasse 6 (community center, formerly town No. 97 )
A partly preserved late Gothic town house, which was first mentioned in a document in 1513. The facade dates from the end of the 19th century and shows a cantilever on consoles . Inside, a hallway and a room have a stitch cap barrel vault from the 16th century. The house served as a brothel after the Second World War and has been a listed building since the end of operations (1993).
- Heiligengeistgasse 8 (community center, formerly town No. 96 )
A three-story, historic building that has been a listed building since 1993. The house was mentioned for the first time in 1513 and an additional floor was added in 1654. Inside there are some barrel vaulted rooms and a Gothic pointed arch portal from around 1500.
- Heiligengeistgasse 10 (community center, formerly town no.95 )
A three-story, historic building that has been a listed building since 1941. In 1654 it collapsed and was largely rebuilt. There were also major changes in the second half of the 18th century and the end of the 19th century.
- Heiligengeistgasse 12 (community center, formerly town No. 94 )
A three-story house first mentioned in 1513. The historical facade was renewed after the fire in 1880; the building has been a listed building since 1941.
- Heiligengeistgasse 14 (town house, formerly town No. 93 )
A two-storey town house that has been a listed building since 1941. It was first mentioned in a document in 1537. In the 16th and 17th centuries, alterations were made, the historical facade dates from the period after 1880.
- Heiligengeistgasse 16 (community center, formerly town No. 92 )
A simple, historic building that has been a listed building since 1941. In the 16th and 17th centuries, modifications were made; after the fire of 1880 parts were renewed.
- Heiligengeistgasse 18 (craftsmen's house, formerly town no.91 )
A historic craftsman's house that was first mentioned in a document in 1557. From 1626 until the second half of the 19th century, a pottery was housed in the building. Parts of the building date from the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 18th century there was an increase and in the 19th century another renovation. Inside there is a corridor with a groin vault , and the former combustion chamber has a lancet barrel vault from the 17th century. The building has been a listed building since 1941
- Heiligengeistgasse 22 (craftsman's house, formerly town No. 89 )
A historically preserved craftsman's house that served as a town forge from 1454 to 1975 . The current building was erected in the first half of the 16th century and partially redesigned in the 17th and 18th centuries. Parts of the furnishings are still preserved from the forge; The house has been a listed building since 1995. Inside there is a rich design with vaults and portals, partly made of stone.

- Corner house Heiligengeistgasse 2 / Böhmergasse 11 (residential building, formerly town no.99 )
A two-story building that was converted into a residential and commercial building at the end of the 19th century. The facade also dates from this period.
- Heiligengeistgasse 2/4 (fountain)
The fountain bears the year 1883. The laterally profiled cornices are closed off by a round-arched, shingle-covered roof.
