The Heimatbund and history association Herzogtum Lauenburg e. V. is the oldest cultural association with the largest number of members in the historic Elbe Duchy . It is divided into seven district groups and is dedicated to the processing and presentation of regional history as well as the maintenance of the Low German language , monument preservation and environmental protection . The Heimatbund and History Association is a citizens' initiative for the homeland .

history

At the "General Assembly for the purpose of bringing about definitive conditions" on May 9, 1883, the Association for the History of the Duchy of Lauenburg was founded in Mölln . This was the foundation of the "first forerunner" of today's association.

The aim of founding the association with the name was at that time "to awaken patriotism in this part of the country and to revive it and to research and present its history from all angles by collecting and processing the monuments and historical sources."

In the decades that followed, the association developed into one of the larger local history associations in Northern Germany, primarily through the commitment of its initiator Walther Dührsen .

After the First World War , development stagnated noticeably. The number of members had decreased significantly in the early 1920s. In 1925, Lauenburgers interested in history founded the Heimatbund Herzogtum Lauenburg in Ratzeburg as part of the existing history association . Its members worked more successfully and with great response and stood out through remarkable activities. So until the end of the 1940s there were two clubs. In 1949, both associations merged to form the Heimatbund and Geschichtsverein Herzogtum Lauenburg eV As the sponsor of the Möllner Museum, Dührsen's original founding remained in existence until today as Freundeskreis Möllner Museum eV

Today the association is part of the regional identity of the Duchy of Lauenburg . He sees it as his task to promote and preserve this identity as well as to give orientation aids for the interest in local history , to discuss and to proclaim it, as far as it is possible for him. This is especially true for the social changes in rural areas .

With the financial support of the district, the club magazine, the Lauenburgische Heimat , became a national series of publications. It has been published under this name since 1925 and is the immediate successor to the original association journal Archives of the Association for the History of the Duchy of Lauenburg , which was preceded by the Patriotic Archive for the Duchy of Lauenburg .

Publications

The Heimatbund and Geschichtsverein Herzogtum Lauenburg eV issues two publications. On the one hand there is the club magazine Lauenburgische Heimat ; it appears twice a year. And secondly, special prints or publications; they appear at irregular intervals.
