Heiner Braasch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heiner Braasch († April 29, 1982 ) was a Hamburg shipowner and finance broker , whose shipping company group, founded in 1969 around the Hamburg shipping company Braasch & Hahlbrok, collapsed in the mid-1970s due to numerous frauds.

history

Heiner Braasch, who had previously worked as a finance broker for Investors Overseas Services (IOS), founded a shipping company working as a tax depreciation company in 1969 together with Hermann Hahlbrok . In the period that followed, the company raised more than DM 140 million from around 2000 limited partners with whom ship limited partnerships were founded. Unless they were given a charter name, the names of the ships began with the word "Hamburger", followed by a term. The ships were registered in Lübeck, whose location on the edge of the zone made it possible to claim additional zone edge funding - a practice that later turned out to be fraud due to the company's Hamburg headquarters.

The first acquisitions were the three sister ships Heinrich Udo Schulte , Thomas Schulte and Angelica Schulte of the Himing class , which were taken over in 1969 by the Bernhard Schulte shipping company and renamed Hamburger Tor , Hamburger Burg and Hamburger Michel . This was followed by a larger used ship, the Cap Verde of the Hamburg-Süd shipping company , which initially continued to be operated without renaming to reverse charter (later Hamburger Brücke ).

From 1970 onwards, whole series of new buildings were taken over. Through the mediation of the Hamburg shipping company Barthold Richters 1968 and 1969 were two units of the type of ship Neptune 381 ordered from the state-owned foreign trade operation ship Commerz, the Hamburger Wall and the Hamburg dam . With the help of the Rostock shipyard, the purchase contracts were specified by around DM 800,000 too high per ship, which enabled Braasch to divert the difference to its own accounts. There were also three Trampko multi-purpose freighters from the Lübeck shipyard Orenstein & Koppel , the Hamburger Fleet , Hamburger Dom and Hamburger Senator . Braasch ordered the bulk freighters Hamburger City , Hamburg flag and Hamburg coat of arms from the Dutch company Verolme Verenigde Scheepswerven (shortly afterwards Rijn-Schelde-Verolme ) . One of the Verolme ships was sold before completion and one shortly after delivery.

The Hamburg shipping company Kontor managed and loaded the ships. Tax evasion, fraud and breach of trust occurred within the group's subsidiaries. So many artificial costs, for example through commissions, were produced. With the help of his brother Holger Braasch, who ran a crew agency in London, it was possible, for example, to settle excessive wages for the ship's crews. At the end of 1972 there were the first reports from donors, later the numerous victims founded a protection association. In 1974 Braasch finally fled Germany and chose his future domicile in countries that did not extradite him despite his arrest warrant. Braasch continued to operate shipping business from abroad. On April 29, 1982, Heiner Braasch was shot dead on his estate in the Dominican Republic.
