Heiner Gembris

Heiner Gembris (born July 13, 1954 in Paderborn ) is a German musicologist who specializes in music psychology.

life and work

Gembris studied school music at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold as well as German and musicology at the Free University (FU) and Technical University (TU) Berlin. After receiving his doctorate in 1985 and teaching at a Berlin grammar school for several years, he worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin. From 1996 to 2001 he was an academic advisor in music education at the University of Augsburg . At the Universities of Münster (1991 to 1997) and Halle-Wittenberg (1996-2001) he held a professorship for systematic musicology. Since April 2001 Heiner Gembris has been Professor of Music, Empirical Music Education and Music Psychology at the University of Paderborn and head of the Institute for Research on Talent in Music (IBFM). His work focuses on musical talent and development from a lifetime perspective, music reception and the effects of music.
