Heiner Wemhöner (born August 13, 1950 in Herford ) is a German entrepreneur and art collector. The “Wemhöner Collection” comprises around 700 works of contemporary art .

Life

Heiner (nickname for Heinrich) Wemhöner is closely associated with the city of Herford, which is the place of birth and residence, the seat of the family company and the focus of the “Wemhöner Foundation”.

After graduation, military service and economic studies with degree graduate in economics , he joined in 1979 into the "Heinrich Wemhöner Maschinenfabrik" (now "Wemhöner") and in 1987 Managing Partner.

Heiner Wemhöner is married and has three children.

Companies

"Wemhöner Surface Technologies GmbH & Co. KG" is a third generation owner-managed machine and system manufacturer specializing in the processing of wooden surfaces and wood-based materials . The company was founded in 1925 by Heinrich Wemhöner. Due to the flourishing furniture industry in the East Westphalian region, the craft business quickly developed into a supplier for special machines and systems. In addition to the headquarters in Herford, there has been a plant in the Chinese city of Changzhou since 2007 . In 2017, the company generated sales of 120 million euros. "Wemhöner Surface Technologies" is regarded as the world market and technology leader in its specialist areas.

Foundation, endowment

The "Wemhöner Foundation" was founded in 2000 on the occasion of the company's 75th anniversary. “Wemhöner Surface Technologies” is the sole benefactor and Heiner Wemhöner is the chairman of the board of trustees. The foundation initially promoted science and research, in particular the training and further education of the next generation of engineers. With the further development of the foundation's goals, in cooperation with Marta Herford , which was realized in 2005 in cooperation with the regional furniture industry, the promotion of art and culture was brought to the fore of the foundation's activities. The “Marta Prize of the Wemhöner Foundation” for contemporary art has been awarded since 2013.

Art collection

The “Wemhöner Collection” is a private collection of contemporary art. The collection topics are painting, sculpture and photography. It is curated by Philipp Bollmann. The connection to the production sites in Herford and Changzhou is visible on the one hand through the close connection to the MARTa Herford, which houses the collection in its depot and whose circle of friends is headed by Heiner Wemhöner. On the other hand, Chinese contemporary art has become a focus of the collection. Under the title “Insights into the Wemhöner Collection”, a selection was shown to the public for the first time from March 23 to May 18, 2014 in Max Hetzler's former gallery in Berlin.

Art installation "I've had enough"

Since October 2017 is in Herford on the parsley street opposite the breakfast mansion on the site of St John's Church , the installation "I've had enough" of Alexandra Ranner had bought the Heiner Wemhöner year, 2015. The installation was initially located on the Wemhöner property on Lockhauser Strasse in Herford. Before that, the work from 2005 was on view in Berlin.

The artwork is a small house with a whip lantern next to it. A video film can be seen through a window in the building in which a disembodied head drifting in a river sings the Bach cantata I've had enough . The video film can be viewed daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in winter.
