Heinrich Arzt (born October 31, 1874 in Michelstadt ; † June 23, 1947 there ) was a German entrepreneur .

Life

Heinrich Arzt was born as the second oldest son of the entrepreneur and cloth manufacturer Michael Arzt and his wife Marie Arzt. May 1874 born in Michelstadt in the Odenwald. Like his brother Ludwig Arzt , Heinrich was systematically prepared for taking over the Ph. Ludwig Arzt cloth factory.

In 1901 Heinrich Arzt took over the family business together with his brother Ludwig. The customer base was continuously expanded and the production process was improved through technical innovations. The process from the unwashed wool to the finished cloth product was completed by additional factories and additional production areas . At the beginning of the 20th century, the Doktor cloth factory in Michelstadt was one of the most important German uniform factories and supplied armies in Europe, Asia and (South) America.

For the numerous workers, the Ph. Ludwig Arzt company provided affordable housing in the immediate vicinity of the production facilities. In 1907 two houses were built for servants in what is now Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, followed by another seven in 1924 .

Heinrich Doktor was also socially committed. In December 1915, he donated a total of 50,000 marks to the Erbach district . The donation was to be used for the benefit of war invalids.

After the First World War , in which the company was able to greatly expand its production, as well as after the Second World War , where the same happened, the production had to be switched from uniform fabrics to civilian products. This was achieved quickly and relatively smoothly, despite raw material shortages.

In 1907/08 Heinrich Arzt had a villa built for him at Erbacher Strasse 41 in his hometown by the Darmstadt architect Arthur Wienkoop . The villa, which is now a listed building, showed the wealth its owner had amassed.

Heinrich Arzt was married to Mathilde Weber (1883–1958). The marriage resulted in the son Walter, who died in 1945 as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force .

Heinrich Arzt died unexpectedly in June 1947 at the age of 72 in his hometown.
