Heinrich August Erhard (born February 13, 1793 in Erfurt , † June 22, 1851 in Münster ) was a German archivist , doctor and historian.

Vita

Heinrich August Erhard was the son of an academy professor at the University of Erfurt . From 1804 to 1809 he attended the Evangelical Ratsgymnasium Erfurt and from 1809 to 1812 studied medicine, history and philology at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In Erfurt he received his doctorate in 1812. med and in 1813 Dr. phil. He then worked as a general practitioner, from 1815 at the end of the coalition wars as a military doctor.

Then he became a sub-librarian, then a teacher at the Evangelical Ratsgymnasium Erfurt , where he had already passed the Abitur. From 1822 to 1827 he worked as a royal librarian at the University Library in Erfurt.

At the same time, he and Ludwig Stock built up the Magdeburg Provincial Archives from 1821 onwards . In 1831 he joined as a royal on Archives and Director of the State Archives in Münster , the new Prussian provincial archive in Münster . He worked there for another twenty years.

From 1834 to 1851 he was director of the Association for History and Archeology of Westphalia, Dept. Münster and editor of the magazine for patriotic history and archeology .
