Heinrich Breitenstein

Heinrich Breitenstein (* 1848 in Iglau ; † 1930 in The Hague ) was a German doctor , zoologist , geographer and writer .

Life

Breitenstein studied medicine in Vienna , went to Java in 1876 as a senior physician in the Dutch-Indian army , traveled the island during his 21-year service, stayed three years in Borneo under the Dayak and got to know a large part of Sumatra . During these trips he made extensive records of the island's society, geography, flora and fauna, which he used as the basis of his memories in India for 21 years . In honor of Breitenstein, the Borneo short-tailed python he discovered was given the zoological name Python Breitensteini .

In 1897 he settled in Karlsbad as a spa doctor .
