Heinrich Eidam

Heinrich Eidam (born June 4, 1849 in Sommerhausen , † April 5, 1934 in Gunzenhausen ) was a German physician and Limes researcher .

Life

Heinrich Eidam studied medicine at the University of Erlangen , where he also received his doctorate in 1875. med. received his doctorate. During his studies in Erlangen in 1868 he became a member of the Bubenreuther fraternity . He settled in Gunzenhausen in 1878 as a doctor. In 1895 he became a district doctor; he built a milk kitchen to combat child mortality and a medical column (1891). In 1921 the museum of local history that he initiated was opened. In the same year he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Gunzenhausen.

Limes research

In 1879 Heinrich Eidam began excavations to research the history of the city of Gunzenhausen and its surrounding area. In the same year he founded the Society of Friends of Antiquity Gunzenhausen and became its first chairman. In 1892 he became route commissioner of the Reich Limes Commission . He looked after the Raetian Limes section from Kleinlellenfeld to the Rezat . Eidam documented the Roman forts Gunzenhausen (from 1897), Gnotzheim (from 1878), Munningen and Theilenhofen (1892 to 1895).

In 1928 he received the Wilhelm Rehlen Prize and in 1930 he received an honorary doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Würzburg for his research.
