The company Heinrich Enders GmbH is a gas, water and heating company and former kuk purveyor . The headquarters is located at the Margaret Street 29 in the 4th Vienna district Wieden .

history

The company was founded in 1852 by the plumber Zainer at Schleifmühlgasse 11. It is believed that this plumber, Zainer, was involved in laying the first lead water pipeline. Ten years later, Anton Nadhera (born 1852 in Oderberg) took over the business. Nadhera constructed the so-called "Austria-Klosett", a flap toilet that was built into a lambrie . This item was exported worldwide until 1914.

In 1892 Nadhera applied for the title of purveyor to the court. In his request he wrote that he had already furnished the Achilleion in Corfu for the Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary . Other members of the imperial family were also being supplied at the time.

Heinrich Enders (born December 18, 1848–1915) came to Vienna from Friedberg (Hesse) in the 1860s. He first worked as a journeyman at the Schwetz company on Ziegelofengasse and then went into business for himself with his own sheet metal shop on Johannesgasse, which, however, was unsuccessful. He found a job with the Wiener Actiengesellschaft for water pipes, gas and heating systems and rose to become a foreman.

In 1894 the Nadhera company was up for sale. Heinrich Enders bought it for 40,000 guilders convention coins, his son Heinrich Rudolf already worked with it.

The City of Vienna commissioned Enders to reinstall the water supply. The company also received orders in the Austrian half of the empire for communities, monasteries, castles and manors such as Abbey Lilienfeld , Gut Wittgenstein , Abbey Heiligenkreuz , castles in Bohemia as well as in Türnitz and Weißenkirchen .

In 1902 Heinrich Enders was appointed purveyor to the imperial and royal court, and then also purveyor to the ducal Saxon court.

This title was also given to his successor Heinrich Rudolf Enders (born September 1, 1876–1934) in 1907 when he took over the company. After his death in 1934, his son Heinrich Josef Enders (born February 16, 1906) took over the master business. The First World War and the collapse of the monarchy brought hard times for the company.

Heinrich Josef Enders and two of his brothers were drafted during the Second World War . In the meantime, the company was run by the uncle, who had already helped out during the First World War. The company headquarters on Margaretenstrasse was damaged during the air raids on Vienna.

In the post-war years, the company was able to recover. During the reconstruction work came in for the Hotel Sacher and the Imperial as well as the installation of three fountains at the orangery in Schönbrunn Palace. In 1954 a branch was founded in Himberg, which moved again in 1968 due to further expansion. Heinrich Josef Enders remained managing director of the company until 1977. Since he had no heir, the company was converted into a limited liability company in 1972. He chose Gerhard Posch as his successor, who joined the company as an apprentice in 1953. He became a partner and took over the company as sole owner in 1980.

Products

The Austria-Klosett was put together from different parts. The basic element was the so-called whistle (gainze), on which the toilet machine was then placed. The actual toilet bowl was then mounted on the toilet machine. The water reservoir had to be filled by hand. The lambrie was either made of varnished softwood or precious woods such as mahogany and rosewood, which then clad the above parts. The toilet could only be installed where there were water pipes. Parts such as the porcelain bowl were produced by the Bohemian manufacturer Carl Knoll in Karlsbad, the colorful decor was decorated with matt gold. Enders products are on display in the Klo & So Sanitary Museum in Gmunden.

The Enders company equipped the bathrooms of the Hotel Sacher and carried out the complete installation of gas, water, heating and bathrooms in the Golf Club Himberg, in schools, kindergartens, residential complexes, the Volkshaus and various public buildings in the market town of Himberg, in the Archdiocese of Vienna, as well as installations for single and multi-family houses, office, company and industrial buildings.
